Starting Solids

When should I start my baby on solids?

What matters most is your baby’s developmental readiness, not a specific age. Every baby develops at their own pace.

Most babies show signs of readiness between 5.5–6.5 months, and it’s important to introduce solids by around 7 months to support key nutrient needs during this stage of rapid growth.

Look for these signs:

  • Sitting independently or with minimal support
  • Strong head and neck control
  • Showing interest in food (watching, reaching, opening mouth)
  • Loss of the tongue-thrust reflex (no longer pushing food out of the mouth)
  • Showing early signs of biting and chewing

Starting solids is less about age and more about whether your baby is ready to safely explore food and get the nutrients they need to thrive.

How much food should I offer my baby to start?

Start small and follow your baby’s cues. Solids are about learning, milk remains their main source of nutrition in the first year.

A simple guide:

  • 6–7 months: 1 meal per day, 1–2 tablespoons or a few soft finger foods
  • 7–9 months: 2 meals per day, ¼–⅓ cup as appetite grows
  • 9–12 months: Progress to 3 meals per day

Watch your baby, if they turn away or lose interest, they’ve had enough. Appetite will vary day to day, and that’s completely normal.

Can I use Odi as a first food?

Yes - Odi can be used as a first food.

If your baby is showing signs of readiness, Odi offers a nutrient-dense option to begin their solids journey. When introducing allergenic foods, it’s recommended to offer them separately and one at a time, so you can safely monitor for any reactions.

How to Use the Range

How do I use Odi puree in my baby’s meals?

Odi is designed to fit seamlessly into your baby’s feeding journey, whether you’re spoon-feeding, following baby-led weaning, or doing a mix of both.

You can:

  • Spoon-feed directly from a bowl or by squeezing the pouch onto a spoon.
  • Use as a dip or spread for baby-led weaning (e.g. on soft veggies, toast, or preloaded spoons)
  • Stir into meals like cooked pasta, quinoa or rice for more texture.

We encourage offering pouches and purées from a spoon or in a bowl, to support development and a positive relationship with food.

Can Odi be used for baby-led weaning (BLW)?

Yes. Odi can be used as part of a baby-led weaning approach.

Baby-led weaning (BLW) is a way of introducing solids where your baby feeds themselves from the start, exploring food through touch, taste, and texture rather than being spoon-fed. It supports independence, coordination, and a positive relationship with food.

Odi pouches and purées can be easily incorporated into this approach. You can offer them on a pre-loaded spoon for your baby to bring to their mouth, or use them as nutrient-dense dips alongside soft, graspable foods like vegetables or toast fingers. Or by mixing into pasta.

There’s no right or wrong way, feeding your baby should feel comfortable and work for your family. Whether you choose baby-led weaning, spoon-feeding, or a combination of both, Odi is designed to support you with real, nourishing food at every stage.

Can I mix Odi products with other foods?

Yes, it’s a great way to build variety and texture into your child’s meals.

Odi pouches and freeze-dried sachets are designed to be complete, nutrient-dense options on their own, but they also work beautifully as a base or addition to other foods.

You can mix Odi purées through foods like pulse or quinoa pasta to introduce more texture while boosting nutrient intake. They also work well stirred into grains, mashed vegetables, or served alongside family meals.

Our freeze-dried sachets are incredibly versatile, mix straight into recipes like fritters or pancakes to add an extra layer of nourishment.

It’s about making real food work for you, simple, flexible, and always nutrient-focused.

How often should I use Odi products?

We recommend using Odi every day, alongside a healthy, varied diet.

Each product in the range brings different, nutrient-dense ingredients, working together to support your child’s daily intake across key nutrients.

Example day on a plate:
Breakfast:
Odi baby cereal with coconut yoghurt and soft fruit
Lunch: Odi Organic Chicken & Vegetable pouch
Afternoon tea: Odi brownie bite
Dinner: Zucchini fritters with Odi meal booster

Across a day like this, your baby can meet 100% of their recommended daily intake of iron, alongside the natural cofactors that support absorption and utilisation.

It’s about building consistency, small, intentional choices across the day that add up to meaningful nutrition.

Organic

Are all Odi products certified organic?

The Odi Organic range is made with organic ingredients, carefully selected for their nutrient density and purity. Where certification applies, ingredients meet certified organic standards. Some ingredients, like kelp sourced from clean New Zealand waters, are not technically classified as organic due to their natural ocean origin - but are held to the same high standards for quality and safety.

What does “organic” mean at Odi?

At Odi, organic means working with nature, not against it. It means ingredients grown without synthetic pesticides or unnecessary inputs, and farming practices that prioritise soil health, biodiversity, and long-term sustainability. It’s about choosing food in its most natural, nutrient-rich form.

Why does Odi prioritise organic ingredients?

Because how food is grown matters. Organic ingredients support cleaner sourcing, protect the integrity of nutrients, and contribute to a healthier food system for future generations. For us, it’s not just about what goes into the product - it’s about the impact it has beyond it.

Food Safety & Testing

Are Odi products third-party tested?

Yes. Odi products are independently tested through Eurofins, a global leader in food testing. This includes comprehensive microbiological analysis, verification of Nutritional Information Panels, validation of label claims, and additional analytical testing specific to infant foods. Eurofins’ specialised baby food testing ensures products meet stringent safety and regulatory requirements.

What we test for
  •  Heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury)
  • Microbiological contaminants (salmonella, E. coli, etc.)
  • Nutritional accuracy (label matches content)
  • Pesticide residues
  • Allergen cross-contamination

We also conduct shelf-life testing to ensure both safety and nutrient stability over time.

Why this matters

Independent testing isn’t just about meeting regulations, it’s about exceeding them. While some brands rely on supplier certificates, we proactively test every product to ensure what’s on the label is exactly what’s in the pouch, sachet, snack & tub.

How does Odi ensure product safety and quality?

We partner with Eurofins to deliver a comprehensive range of analytical testing across every stage of production.

From raw ingredients through to finished products, we implement strict quality control processes, full traceability, and rigorous safety checks. This ensures every product meets the highest standards for safety, purity, and nutritional integrity.

Do Odi products meet infant food regulations?

Yes. All Odi products are fully compliant with the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) Food Standards Code.

Compliance is supported and validated through independent third-party testing, ensuring that all safety requirements are met and that food labelling and nutritional claims are accurate and trustworthy.

Packaging

Is Odi packaging recyclable?

Our current pouch structure is designed to keep your little one’s food safe, fresh and nutrient-rich. This requires multiple protective layers, which means the pouches aren’t currently recyclable through standard soft plastic streams.

We’re always looking at ways to improve our packaging and are actively exploring more sustainable options as technology evolves, without compromising on food safety or quality.

How should I store Odi products once opened?

Pouches: Once opened, refrigerate at 1–5°C and use within 2 days.

Purée powders: Once opened, follow serving instructions. If your baby only consumes part of a serve, reseal the remaining powder and store it in the fridge.

Are Odi pouches resealable?

Once opened, refrigerate at 1-5 deg celsius, and use within 2 days.
